Was there anything in the letter from the Chief of Police which would indicate that the Chief himself, and not just his officer, had acted wrongfully in his handling of this matter?

Short answer – yes!

Long answer – well, that will have to wait until the complaint I have made about his misconduct has been dealt with. I can't comment on something which is sub judice.

Until then I shall be updating this webpage once a week, on Mondays, with news of the progress of the complaint, and other news on topics relating to Mountain View.

Meanwhile, bear in mind that there was absolutely no reason that the police should have been involved in this matter in the first place. The prankster who made the initial call to the police on April 9th did so maliciously, in order to get them embroiled in a dispute which had already been going on for more than two months between a patron of the Senior Center who had raised concerns about how it was being managed, and the Recreation Department culpable for that mismanagement. The police allowed themselves to be tricked into getting involved by accepting at face value a report from a person they believed to be a trustworthy city employee, but who deliberately withheld information from them about what the likely outcome would be if they made any mistakes during their attendance on that day.

Then, the officer responding to the call overstepped the bounds of his authority and assaulted a senior citizen. The prankster must have been overjoyed to witness this (she was present when it happened), because now the police themselves would be in the firing line for criticism. Perhaps it was hoped that this might distract attention from the original concerns I had raised about the incompetence and dishonesty of the Senior Coordinator.

No such luck – I have plenty of time and resources to devote to tracking down and eliminating any and all threats to the safety of seniors in our poor benighted City.

It gives me something to do to keep me occupied with during my retirement.

By the way, I hope you weren't thinking of buying (or selling) a home here in Mountain View anytime soon . . .
