Dishonesty.
If this had been a one-off attack it would have been bad enough, but as the days passed I was meeting more and more people who had seen my attacker having problems with others at our Center. I also became concerned because the adjacent children's center frequently sends small parties of pre-schoolers on tours of the Senior Center, and if the 'ticking time bomb' went off while one of these groups was confined in the vicinity it could be catastrophic.
I had already sent one email to the Senior Coordinator identifying a third party who could give an unbiased account of other instances of conflict. In that email I had written:
David tells me that he is aware of other contretemps which this person has had with other patrons, and though I have not asked him, I feel he would be willing to corroborate my concerns.
This was such an important piece of information, I repeated it in a letter which I delivered by hand to the office of the Senior Center after the meeting on February 9th. In that letter, I wrote:
In my email I had informed you that there was another person, David, who at other times had independently witnessed my assailant having confrontations with at least one other patron.
On Thursday, February 11, the Senior Coordinator approached me at the Center and informed me that the City Attorney had instructed that the additional information to which I had referred in my email be solicited from David, so I introduced them to one another and withdrew.
On Friday, February 12 I received an email from the Senior Coordinator informing me that after further consideration and investigation, no additional information had been forthcoming which would warrant any change to the original decision.
All right then, dear Readers, here comes the first big surprise as payoff for your patience and fortitude in following this site so far. First, have a look again over the above information which I had provided to the Senior Coordinator, in the two sections which are displayed in bold type above. Then, try and guess what reason would be given for not reversing the decision. Go on, guess. I bet you a pound to a penny, you will not be able to predict what you will find yourself reading in amazement when you click on the link in the next paragraph. But be warned - don't be holding any hot tea or coffee in your hand when you click!
Now click here to read the reason which the Senior Coordinator gave for why nothing would be done, letting stand the original wrongheaded decision.
